What Subjects or topics are commonly covered by personal tutors?
Personal tutors commonly support a wide range of school subjects, from early primary through to GCSE, A-Level and beyond. The most frequently requested subjects include core areas such as maths, English and science, but many tutors also offer help with humanities, languages, IT and a variety of other specialist subjects.
In primary school, tuition often focuses on building secure foundations in literacy and numeracy – for example reading, spelling, handwriting, basic maths skills and preparation for SATs. Tutors can also support the wider primary curriculum, helping children feel more confident across English, maths and science as they move through Key Stages 1 and 2.
At secondary level, many families look for help with English Language, English Literature and Mathematics, as these are key GCSE subjects. Science is also a common focus, whether that is Combined Science or separate Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Tutors can reinforce classwork, explain challenging topics and provide practice with exam-style questions tailored to the relevant exam board.
Beyond the core subjects, personal tutors often teach history, geography, IT and computer science, as well as modern languages such as French, German and other languages. Support is available at Key Stage 3, GCSE and A-Level, including help with coursework, extended writing and subject-specific exam techniques.
Many tutors also offer specialist support for particular goals or stages, such as 11+ and other entrance exams, study skills, revision planning and exam techniques. At higher levels, there may be tutors available for undergraduate support or more specialised topics, depending on the subject and location.
At Personal Tutors, we have tutors available in most school subjects and levels, and there is especially high demand for maths, English and science. If you do not see your subject listed, it is still worth asking, as we may be able to suggest tutors with relevant experience in that area.
